A modern version of a classic Scanian sofa bed - Design: Kristina Stark.
The function is the same - to raise something we value highly - something good to eat or indispensable everyday things. The fine craftsmanship of the common people with turned and decorated details used to give a status to the owner. In our time, we place great value on the genuine and natural materials. Wood gives a warm soft feeling and Kristina strives for the least possible processing of the material to maintain as much of the genuine feeling as possible while she wants to create a contemporary expression in terms of form.
In 2018, 9 Scanian designers were paired with 9 Scanian museums and their collections to together create a Scanian museum collection with locally manufactured products.
The collaboration aimed to produce products inspired by objects in the Scanian museums 'collections that would then be available for sale in the museums' stores as a single collection. The designers live in Skåne and the products are manufactured "locally". The project can be seen as an encouragement to the continued use and development of cultural heritage, but the idea was also that the result should have economic significance for both designers and museums.
The result was a wonderfully creative collection with a wide range. The designers were inspired by everything from folklore, Scanian architecture and vegetation to individual artistry and the creative process.
